Game watched: Wigan 0-2 Man Utd

The JJB Stadium (or DW Stadium as it became known in 2009) is Wigan Athletic’s new 25,000 stadium which they moved to in 1999 and share with Wigan Warriors Rugby League team. Since moving there from Springfield Park, attendances have increased as they have moved up the divisions, but they rarely sell out, as rugby still remains a very popular sport there. i went to their old Springfield Park Stadium a few times and it is a world away from the DW Stadium. Wigan have been in the Premier League since the 2005-06 season, helped by their owner and successful businessman Dave Whelan’s backing of the club. My team Manchester United usually receive a decent allocation of around 4,500 tickets for this match, behind one of the goals. This could be more though, as Wigan don’t usually sell all their tickets when they play us and there are usually a couple of thousand empty seats.

The DW Stadium is located on Robin Park Industrial Estate, so there are several eating options on there. There is parking on this Estate too, although I have always street parked just outside this Estate in residential areas there. It is about a 15 minute walk but is free to park (no resident only schemes) and quick to get away after the game.
