This was the last game during a 4-games-in-4-days tour around my birthday in February 2017. I arrived to Manchester Victoria by train from Newcastle in the early afternoon and located my hotel in Portland Street. I had been to the Etihad a couple of times before, the last time ten months earlier to return a ticket for a game that had been moved because of their Champions League involvement. However, this was the first game I would watch there and what a crazy game it turned out to be. There were long lines outside the stadium to get in. My seat was in the East Stand Lower, which is an unusually flat stand for a football ground, and an indicator that the stadium was not originally designed for football. 

Monaco started brightly, but it was City that took the lead trough Raheem Sterling after 26 minutes when Leroy Sané had opened up the Monaco defence. Before half-time, Monaco had come back with goals from Radamel Falcao, who was returning to Manchester after his unsuccesful loan spell with United, and the exciting 18-year old Kylian Mbappé, who with his speed was a constant threat to the City defence throughout the game. 

The second half had just started when Falcao was given a penalty, but his weak effort was easily saved by Caballero. Aguero made it 2-2, but within 3 minutes Falcao had struck again for 2-3 with a delicate lob after he had easily rounded John Stones. Aguero started City's great comeback in the 71st minute tapping in a corner. Another corner saw Stones make it 4-3 before Aguero served Sané 5-3 on a platter in the 82nd minute. Less than two minutes later, Caballero denied Falcao a hat trick.

It's still the only time I have watched from a stand 8 goals being scored in England. Considering what was at stake, a place in the CL quarterfinals, it was completely unexpected. 

The next morning I flew home from Manchester Airport. The Swedish TV commentators who had done the match were on the same flight.
