This was my 68th league ground. At the time, the Whaddon Road Ground was called LCI Rail Stadium. In the morning, I woke up in Birmingham. After a coffee and sandwich at Birmingham New Street, I had made the 40-minute train ride to Cheltenham Spa. From there it was quite a walk to my B&B, particularly as it was raining. When I found it, it turned out I had a room in their refurbished garden shed. It was better than it sounds. After putting my things in place, I walked downtown to have lunch and visit the ground to get me a ticket in the Wymans Road Stand for £21. There was time for some sight-seeing before I got back to my shed to get me an afternoon nap. 

Colchester came into the game in position 23 with a 10-game streak without a win that had given them only 4 points. Cheltenham were not much better, positioned in 21st place. The first half was goalless and I could understand why both teams were at the bottom of the football league. Early on in the second half, Colchester's Craig Slater was allowed to dribble himself in a good position in the penalty area, with five Cheltenham defenders around him, to break the deadlock. 20 minutes later, it was 3-0 for the visitors, who with this game included would not be beaten for two months and take 23 points from nine games to shoot up the table. Cheltenham's Harry Pell was given a second yellow for diving in the 87th minute. By then, it didn't matter much for the result.

I had watched Cheltenham record their biggest loss at home in the league during the 2016/17 season. It was also Colchester's biggest away win that season.

The next morning I was on the train again for the 2-hour ride to Paddington. In the evening I was going to watch Arsenal draw PSG 2-2 in the Champions League.
