Game watched: Northamton Town 0-1 Peterborough United
I had taken the train up from Brighton via Euston in the morning arriving at Northampton by 11. I stayed at the ibis hotel in Northampton. I took a bus out to the ground early as I was aiming to watch Arsenal play Manchester United before the game. They had an early kickoff at Old Trafford. The last time I had been to the ground was 20 months earlier when Coventry were playing at Sixfields so I knew there was a decent mall close to the stadium with a Hungry Horse restaurant. However, when I got there I discovered that the mall was being renovated and closed. Walking around, I found The Walter Tull, a pub that would open at 12 so I lined up with a bunch of other people waiting. All tables had been reserved so I had to settle for a drinking lunch and then get a burger at the stadium. By the way, Oliver Giroud equalised in the 89th minute, which was sweet as the majority in the pub seemed to favour United.
As far as attendance, I definitely chose the right to game to go to. I believe that 7,675 on this Saturday is The Cobblers' best league attendance since moving to Sixfields. They had managed to squezze in 7,798 for a Manchester United league cup game two months earlier, which is their record attendance.
Peterborough were 5th and Northampton 8th in the L1 table and it looked like the game would finish goalless. Both teams had created chances, but there wasn't a goal until the 92nd minute when Chris Forrester nodded in a cross from the right.
After the game, I walked back to the hotel to warm up. The next day I left Northampton for Birmingham.
