This was probably my craziest experience getting to the 92. I plan my football trips meticulously and somehow I had managed not to think about the fact that Europa League games were being played Thursdays, which is even more strange considering the fact we were going to Liverpool anyhow. Since this day Europa League has always been part of my plans. Two of my buddies and I were on a train from Euston to Crewe when Harry said: 'Liverpool are playing home tonight'. Of course, he was right so when we arrived in Liverpool we checked in to our hotels and went out to Anfield to see if we could get tickets. When it was our turn, I asked the young guy in the booth what he had left and there were a few tickets left in the Anfield Road Stand with severely restricted view. It was at this time I told him that Anfield would be my 59th league ground and we started to chat about other grounds I had been to. The fact that I already had a ticket to The New York Stadium in Rotherham for the next evening for my 60th ground seemed to take in and ten minutes later, all three of us had great seats for £30 each in The Centenary Stand.

Two weeks earlier, during an international break, Liverpool had appointed Jürgen Klopp as their new manager and this was to be his home debut creating some extra interest for the game. Within 15 minutes Liverpool were a goal down scored by the Ukrainian Marko Devic. LFC prospects looked brighter after 35 minutes when the visitors had their skipper Oleg Kuzmin sent off for a second bookable offence. Particularly since Emre Can scored after the resulting freekick had been headed by Origi in his direction. Liverpool were a disappointment in the second half. Benteke came closest to a second goal when he hit the post ten minutes from time. 

The next morning we had tickets to visit the homes of John and Paul, which is another story. I said goodbye to my friends after lunch and took the train to Sheffield for league ground #60.
