Game watched: Swindon Town 2-4 Brighton & Hove Albion
Fourth game in four days during the August tour 2014 that I made with my daughter. Before the game we felt a strange sulphuric smell in Swindon. At the time, I thought it was coming from a factory, but it came from an Icelandic volcano that had a burst a couple of days before.
The game was a 2nd round Capital One Cup match between League One Swindon and Championship Brighton. Sami Hyypiä had become manager for Brighton in June and this was to be one of only six wins for him as Brighton manager. Quite early in the first half, Rohan Ince scored the best goal I've ever seen live. He started a counter attack in his own penalty area after a Swindon throw. Then he ran across the playing field to hit the ball again on volley outside Swindon's penalty area. It flew into the goal like a ballistic missile. Spontaneously, the Swindon fans next to me started applauding and Ince pulled off his shirt to celebrate the wonder goal. I don't think noone could have complained to him about the yellow card he received.
Immidiately after the break, Swindon equalised. That result stood and extra-time was needed. Brighton won the game 4-2 after two penalties and a sending-off in extra-time. With 5 minutes left, we needed to get back to the station to catch the London train so we missed both the sending-off and the last penalty.
This was my 47th league ground and my daughter's 16th.
