Game watched: Crawley Town 1-2 Bristol Rovers

I was at a conference in London and as this FA Cup second round game had been postponed the preceding Saturday and would be replayed on Wednesday, I decided to take the train down to Crawley from Victoria to get another league ground. It was to be #39.

It was a miserable evening for football. The rain poured down as I left the station for the fairly long walk down to Broadfield or Checkatrade.com Stadium as it was officially called at the time. At least, that's what the ticket says. I got me a £5 ticket for the South Stand, got inside and walked over to the East Stand as noone tried to stop me. Somewhat unexpectedly I found myself watching my second Crawley game in a row as I had seen them win in Peterborough on the last day of August.

Crawley took an early lead through Jamie Proctor and it looked like it would be the only goal as the conditions for football were far from ideal with the rain pouring down on an already muddy pitch. Late in the second half Eliot Richards equalised for the Pirates and in overtime John-Joe O'Toole scored the winner for the vistors from a goalkeeper rebound.

Someone in my neighbourhood had shouted "you'll play in the Conference next season" when Rovers had a throw-in close to where we were sitting and he was right. In May, Bristol Rovers were relegated in the last game of the season and Wycombe Wanderers miracuosly stayed up.

I was glad to be back in a nice hotel room in London about 90 minutes after the game had ended.
