Game watched: Oldham Athletic 2-4 Sheffield Wednesday

This was the third game of four that I watched in August 2012 with my daughter on the so called Olympic Tour. Capital One Cup first round at Boundary Park.

We had arrived in Manchester early Monday afternoon from Cardiff where we had spent two nights and watched two games in two days. We took a bus bound for Oldham from Piccadilly. For evening games, you ended up quite a distance from the ground. We found the stadium and as we were early I bought a pint of Worthington's and got an excuse that it was the first for the evening. When I had drunk about half, the lady who had sold it to me came with a new one and said that it would taste better. I couldn't feel a great difference, but I thought it was extremely nice of her - and I got 1.5 pint for the price of one.

Wednesday were not present during the first half, I think they even missed a penalty, and Oldham were two goals up at halftime. The second half was a different story and Wednesday came back to win the 'Owls derby' 4-2. Michail Antonio, who had signed a permanent deal with Wednesday the Monday before, sealed the win by scoring the last goal.

Going back to the centre of Manchester was easier said than done. We found a very dark side street where it looked like a bus would pass. Almost half an hour later a bus did show up and we were able to get back to the hotel. On the bus we met a Norwegian groundhopper who told us he was going to the Derby vs Scunthorpe game the following day. If he did go, he got value for the entrance fee. The game ended 5-5 and after 18 penalties Scunthorpe had completed their comeback, they were 3-0 down after the first half.
