I had done some work in Portsmouth during the week and stayed an extra night to watch a Friday game at the Den. Millwall and Wolves were to finish 4th and 3rd in the table. Wolves would have needed 3 points in this game for automatic promotion to the Premier League, but in the end both teams were to lose the play-off semifinals.

A Steve Claridge penalty won the game for Millwall. Before the final whistle Wolves came close to an equalizer, but Dean Sturridge's shot hit the post. The Millwall fans were upbeat on this night and the Lions roar echoed around the stadium.
