Game watched: Tranmere Rovers 1-0 Lincoln City
A last minute decision to visit Tranmere! Getting to the ground was simple in the end aside from the short delays on the motorways! There was plenty of parking at the stadium for all fans and in addition this was ample to get away from following the completion of the game.
Outside parts of the stadium looked like some warehouse but after entry to the away section there was a large concourse. It felt like they had not anticpated the number of fans given the staffing on the bars/food outlets. That said the beer was good and the food was reasonable.
Inside the ground, a sense of inbalance with the stands, but one that has been built as the years went on. It felt traditional and there was a reasonable atmosphere created by both sets of fans.
I would love to see a club like Tranmere that is very much part of a big footballing city be able to attract more under 18's as they can become the lifeblood in the future. I fear that so many kids will be quick to pick up a red or blue jersey for the glory rather than the white one. This group of people is a big pool in a city the size of Liverpool and need to be able to access football at a ground rather than just on TV. Neither the reds/blues were playing that night and parents could quite easily have taken them along to swell the crowd and give them a great experience!
As for the football, I will say that Lincoln are masters at managing clock within games, however Tranmere were something new! If we played for 45 minutes in possesion or even 30 minutes we would have been at the game until the following Saturday!!
