Have you ever found some away days difficult to get to? Be it inconvenient train times, extortionate train prices or fuel cost etc there are a number of factors nowadays that make journeys like that 600 mile round trip to Carlisle or that Tuesday night game away at Brighton difficult to make and very expensive. Step forward GoCarShare with an innovative solution to bring fellow fans together and to bring down the cost of your away days with their new sport service.
The Launch:
On September 24th GoCarShare will be launching it’s sport service, aimed at helping fans get to games in a more affordable, environmentally and community friendly way. GoCarShare allows fans to network, helping them discover who’s going to what game and when, at a fraction of the price compared to the train. GoCarShare has amassed attention from a range of football teams and supporters organisations from the likes of Saracens Rugby Club, Tottenham’s and Celtic’s supporters trusts and lower league teams such as Saffron Walden FC.
About GoCarShare:
As a platform, GoCarShare has two kind of users. Firstly, drivers who post journeys they have planned online where they can rent out their seats for a calculated price on the site which is often 50% cheaper than most public transport. There are also passengers who can search for a desired journey listed by a driver and connect to them, renting out seats to get from A to B.
GoCarShare is a useful tool for football fans as it works as an aid for them to network from anywhere in the country and lets them avoid large public transport fares. It is an environmentally friendly solution, with one full car being as good for the environment as taking the train. GoCarShare is also beneficial to football clubs as it helps them get more fans over to their games from the wider supporting community.
A London based Manchester City fan would typically spend around £80 (ticket bought the week before) getting to the Etihad Stadium on the train, however using GoCarShare, it only costs them £32 for the round trip, saving them a total of 60%.
Praise for GoCarShare:
“At a time when it’s getting increasingly expensive to watch live football, GoCarShare looks like an exciting and innovative way to help football fans bring down the cost of following their team. Travelling to the match, particularly when you’re away from home, can be very expensive, so I’m sure supporters will welcome this opportunity to save a few quid.”
-Paul Head – Chairman Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust
“As a regular driver to and through London on a match day I’m 100% behind the need for car sharing. With reduced traveling expenses (due to sharing the costs), the fact that there are too many cars on the road and ridiculous parking restrictions (and costs) when you get there. Car Sharing is a no brainer for me.”
-Peter Sampson – Owner CFCNET
“The Celtic Trust is very interested in the GoCarShare scheme and we welcome any initiative which makes it easier for Celtic supporters who live at a distance from Glasgow to attend matches both home and away. We wish the scheme every success and look forward to hearing more about it”
-Marie McCusker – Secretary Celtic Supporters’ Trust
“GoCarShare is a brilliant idea, great for the community, environment and a top service for the fans!”
-Ken Vincent – Vice Chairman Saffron Walden Town FC
