West Ham United are one of England’s oldest and most prestigious football clubs. After plying their trade at the Boleyn Ground since 1904, the Hammers are set to move to the vacant Olympic Stadium at the beginning of next season and Slaven Bilic’s men are playing some lovely football that is certainly suited to their new home. West Ham are on the cusp of challenging for a Champions League spot this season and, with a bit of luck, their star men may lead them to Europe’s elite club competition. The Boleyn Ground, otherwise known as Upton Park, has been a… Read more »

92 before 30 – Griffin Park Brentford
Blogger Katie recounts a trip to Griffin Park, the home of Championship side Brentford as she continues her journey to reach the 92 club before turning 30. Ground: Griffin Park 62/92 Game: Brentford 1-3 Burnley Date: 15/01/2016 Thoughts on the ground: Brentford’s ground is of course famous for having a pub on every corner. The two times that I’ve been to Griffin Park I haven’t managed to visit one which is a shame. We arrived at the ground with a quarter of an hour to kick off and the two that we walked past were heaving so not sure we… Read more »
A third call to the One Call Stadium
Blogger pb1uk completes a hat-trick of visits to the One Call Stadium, the home of Mansfield Town. Yeovil were the visitors as the Somerset side sought to continue their impressive run of form under new boss Darren Way. Ground: The One Call Stadium (Field Mill) 56/92 (revisiting) Game: Mansfield Town 0-1 Yeovil Town Date: 05/03/2016 Following Yeovil hasn’t been a pleasant experience in recent years. Since reaching the Championship in 2013 the club have been relegated in each of the last 2 seasons finishing bottom of the league. Being a Midlands exile I usually can only make a handful of… Read more »
Unity now needed if Middlesbrough are to gain promotion
Middlesbrough return after the international break with nine games remaining this season. David Nugent’s 90th minute winner against Hull means Boro are five points off top spot in the table and a point behind second-placed Brighton when the Championship resumes. Boro boss Aitor Karanka has now confirmed that his future will be at the Riverside Stadium. The Spaniard did not take charge of the North East club’s trip to Charlton earlier this month and that row clearly had a negative effect on the team as they were beaten 2-0 by the Championship strugglers at the Valley. Now that Karanka has… Read more »
A relegation 6 pointer at Craven Cottage
Blogger pb1uk made his way to the capital to tick Craven Cottage, the home of Fulham FC, off his 92. Bristol City were the visitors in what was the proverbial relegation 6 pointer. Ground: 56/92 Game: Fulham 1-2 Bristol City Date: 14/03/2016 Of the remaining grounds on my 92, Craven Cottage was among those I was most looking forward to ticking off. Being a fan of the more old fashioned traditional ground it certainly didn’t disappoint. After a cold snap over the last few weeks my old man and I were greeted with a hazy sunshine-filled spring day as we… Read more »
The Gills fly into Glanford Park Scunthorpe
Gillingham fan Michael Pilcher made the long trip to Lincolnshire to Glanford Park, the home of Scunthorpe United. The Gills were looking to the stop of rot after 3 consecutive defeats had seen their promotion push stutter. Ground: Glanford Park 77/92 Game: Scunthorpe United 0 – 0 Gillingham Date: 05/03/2016 “I’ve been Southampton but I’ve never been to Scunthorpe”, as Tinie Tempah tells us on ‘Pass Out’. This particular line applied to me too, but was something I needed to put right if I ever wanted to complete the 92. With Gillingham travelling there this was as good a time… Read more »
the 92 – A Dutch mans obsession – Han van Eijden
Groundsman: You are heavily involved in football nostalgia and ground hopping websites. What sites do you run, and why did you start them? Han: I was an overseas contributor of photographs for www.footballgroundguide.com in its embryonic stages, having been alerted to this brainchild of webmaster Duncan Adams in an English Saturday newspaper in the nineties. I contributed with photographs from my private collection to build content and assisted in shaping the subsection about ‘lost but not forgotten’ at the Old British Grounds and stands. I started The Beautiful History to share my passion for the history of club crests, colors… Read more »
