Game watched: Doncaster Rovers 5-0 Kidderminster Harriers
My daughter and I had flown in during the day, set up our base camp in Shipley and then gone straight to Doncaster for the match against Kidderminster Harriers. I think we managed to get burgers at a McDonalds near the Doncaster station before walking out to Belle Vue.
Rovers had gone to the top of the table the weekend before and they were in the same position when the season ended. A very good Friday crowd of 7,592 had turned up. It was pay at the gate and standing so it's one of the few games in England I'm missing a tcket for.
As a football match, it turned out to be a very one-sided affair. Mark Albrighton gave the home side the lead after 5 minutes and it ended 5-0. Harriers ended the season in 16th place and would go down the following season becoming the first league team that I had seen not playing in the league. Jan Mølby, the Danish Liverpool legend, was in his second stint as manager for the Harriers. It wasn't as succesful as the first and he resigned in October 2004.
When we went back to Shipley, it was time for Friday parties in both Doncaster and Leeds and my daughter was fascinated by the absence of coats and jackets on the young females in her own age and a bit older.
